The
beginning of a new year is always filled with promise…at least the
promises to yourself (a.k.a. resolutions).
I tend to make the same two every year – 1) finish UFOs
(unfinished objects) before starting something new and 2) work from my
yarn stash. Please,
can we not discuss the first one? But
I am doing much better on the second.
I’ve managed to resist the great sales and coupons for yarn
that have been coming my way. Good
thing as if I keep stashing, I will have to move to a bigger house!
Such is the life of a yarn connoisseur (I like the sound
of that!). So I am making
2012 the year of “knitting from stash.”
How about you? As
far as UFOs….well, keep checking the blog
as I do have some great patterns in store for you. J The twisted issue of (easy) cables is in this issue along with Part 2 of Converting Needle Knit Patterns to Loom Knit. Loads of information to keep you converting. Daisy Mae, Cabled Slouch Hat is featured with the purchase of the January/February 2012 edition of KYIS. Plus a pattern to help you use up that fun fur you stashed (Fuzzy-Top Felted Slipper pattern). Hope your holidays were filled with bright lights and many blessings. Here’s to 2012! Kathy

Cables Cables, or twisting stitches, is simply the
crossing of one group of stitches in front or behind another group of
stitches within the same row. This
creates a twisted rope-like effect on the knitted piece.
Typically the group of stitches are worked on a bed of reverse
stockinette stitch (psst…this just means purl every row for a loom
knitter!) There are a wide group of stitch patterns that fall into the cable category - from a basic left or right twist cable to the more complex Aran patterns. Want to be notified when KYIS

From Kathy Norris Designs (click on photo for more details) Converting Needle Knit Patterns to Loom Knit - Part 2Things to consider when converting a pattern · Is the needle knit pattern for circular (round) knitting? Or flat panel? · Are there decreases and which direction do they lean? The direction you knit on the loom (clockwise or counter-clockwise) will affect whether you use a k2tog (right slant decrease) or ssk (left slant decrease). You may have to switch the decreases to slant in the correct direction. read more
